I love that we set aside a whole day to honour and celebrate the women who raised us. The title of Mum is a very honoured and cherished position and comes in many shapes and forms. It could be your birth mum, step mum, sister, grandmother, aunty, friends mum or even Dad as Mum.
Whoever your mum is, if she lives near or far, we should still take time to honour and appreciate her this Mother's Day. However, with our lives being so busy, it can be hard to think of ways to show you care. So I have compiled a small list of ideas to help - some costing nothing but a small amount of your time.
7 ways to show you care this NZ Mother’s Day
Ideas to do with your Mum
1 - High Tea Party
These are becoming every increasingly popular. Whether you head out and enjoy afternoon tea while perched on a gilded hotel armchair in fine 'British' style or bake and prepare your own high tea in the comfort of your own home. This is a great way to spend quality time with your Mum. Nice food, great conversation and a nice outfit - what more could you want?
2 - Nail Salon
Get a manicure or pedicure or both. This is a great way to spoil Mum and give her a bit of pampering.
3 - Take a stroll
Head out for a morning or afternoon walk on the beach, through the park or somewhere that is special to you and your mum. This costs you nothing besides a little petrol and time out of your day.
4 - Catch a movie together
Netflix will never match the joy of going to the cinema, ordering a big bag of popcorn and watching a good movie and I bet it has been a while since your mum experienced this. You could even turn it up a notch by going Gold Class.

6 - Handmade Cards
Taking it back to the old school days when you use to spend time sitting down and creating cards for people you care about. Why not show your appreciation of mum this way? Nothing says I appreciate you more than a handmade card full of love.
Tip: Do you have kids? Why not get them to create cards for Grandma. She will absolutely love them and it gives you time to sit down and create with your kids too... or let's be honest ... have a glass of wine in peace while the kids are entertained.
7 - A phone call
Phone calls are more sincere then a txt message and provide you with quality catch up time from afar. She will appreciate every single second of the call and be glad to know you are thinking of her.
Lastly but definitely not least... to those whose Mums are in the sky above shining down, know she would be proud of the person you are today. I hope your day is filled with love from those whom surround you.
Happy Mother’s Day and remember there is a reason some people think they can do anything - they listened to their Mothers!
Children and Mothers never truly part, bound together by the beating of one another’s hearts
